Pretty Hamptons Styling

Pretty in Pink

Spring Styling

Every time I pop over to Monika Hibb's blog
I am overwhelmed with the gorgeous decor, the beautiful styling
and posts full of sorbet colours, flowers and prettiness.
I am in love with her uber pretty Hamptons style home
and would love to give my house a glamorous, pastel makeover,
but sadly I don't think I would get that one past my
down-to-earthy, minimalist, surfie husband!!!

Tropical Paradise

Talk about a dreamy destination … this looks amazing!
Not just the stunning Caribbean island of St Barts, but the beautiful Villa Palmier …
it looks everything that an island destination, home away-from-home should be.

Matt and Kate Holstein, an American couple from Aspen, recently remodeled a dreamy beach house for themselves and guests on the Caribbean island of St. Barts. Kate, a photographer with a passion for interior design, and her husband Matt, who has a background in construction and real estate, jointly revamped their idyllic Villa Palmier with an emphasis on bringing the locale’s pristine outdoors in. A covered structure with a peaked, painted metal roof provides 1,000 square feet of floor space completely open to the air on two sides. That square footage is doubled by the property’s exterior decks and gardens. They finished the house in a modern, organic style with a neutral color palette to invoke a sense of serenity. The retreat offers a harmonious lifestyle, a place for family and friends to reconnect with each other, nature, and escape the modern, fast pace of life.

A tight three-month renovation deadline proved challenging, as most materials and fixtures had to be shipped from elsewhere to the island. But with the help of the expert local property manager, who knew how to get things done, the family managed to carve out their own airy niche with eclectic finishes while maintaining the breezy feeling characteristic of the area. Everything about the island is small, quaint and aesthetically pleasing, there are no traffic lights, big hotels, or cruise ships — something quite unique in the Caribbean.

Tribal Chic

Tribal Chic is an eclectic, contemporary style that is trending right now in the interiors and fashion world. This look is about reconnecting with nature by using organic handmade pieces made from rustic, raw materials and making an impact with bold tribal accents. Follow these five easy steps to achieve a stunning exotic look in your own home.

COLOURS & TEXTURES

To achieve a chic African Style, think warm natural tones such as sandy yellows and earthy browns combined with whites, charcoal and ebony.  The key to executing this look is to use natural textures such as timber, jute, leather, fur, animal hides and bone accents.
TIP: Decorate around a neutral scheme, use bold charcoal greys and whites, (even blacks) for wall colours. Add drama with contrasting colours: contrast white with black and use accent colours sparingly.

Start with a neutral colour scheme and add texture with beautiful natural and hand crafted pieces.  Use a jute rug, animal hide throw on the floor and add rustic, handmade pieces for a sophisticated African look.

KEY PIECES

There are some amazing tribal and african home decor and furniture pieces available, which can be the statement piece of your look. The trick is to keep it modern and accent it with a few tribal home accessories. It's best to either pick one hero piece of beautiful exotic furniture, such as a bamileke table or bone inlay chest of drawers and make that the centrepiece. Complete the look with smaller tribal accents such as shell necklaces, a reindeer hide throw, or even something extra special like a carved bone skull.
TIP: don't over-do it with tribal accents. Use a few key pieces or group a collection together to make a statement eg, have a display of baskets or showcase artefacts as a display in one area.

FURNITURE

Malawi chairs & Bamileke Tables are very popular tribal furniture pieces, available in white, black or natural - these beautiful pieces with their striking colours and raw materials, will definitely make a strong tribal statement. Each table is hand carved from one single tree truck, which makes each piece special and unique. Also featured above is the black bone chest of drawers which makes a stunning statement in any living space or bedroom.

RUGS

Floor rugs add warmth and create intimate spaces in a room. Use natural fibres such as sisal, jute, leather and animal hides.
TIP: contrast rug colour with floor surface to keep the look interesting and add some drama e.g light sisal rug over dark timber floor.

ACCESSORIES

Homewares and accessories are the perfect way to add those finishing touches to any space. Use a few unique pieces, that will really complete your tribal look. I love the tribal art collection from Designer Boys. Check out Zohi Interiors for more Tribal inspiration or to source some of these pieces.
